Thunderbrook Horse Feed: Harnessing the power of nature

At Thunderbrook, we are dedicated to providing equine nutrition that aligns with the natural diet of horses. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that horses thrive best on what nature intended them to eat. Our range of products, from Chaff with natural pre- and probiotics to to herbal supplements and concentrates to HayCobs filled with the goodness of nature, embodies this principle. We take pride in using high-quality, natural ingredients to create feeds that serve as herbal supplements, natural balancers and concentrates, as well as carriers for essential balancers, vitamins, and mineral mixes, supplementing what may be lacking in regular forage.

A natural approach to equine nutrition

We believe that the foundation of a horse’s diet lies in the grass and hay they consume. Therefore, we firmly stand against using cereals, molasses, binders, fillers, or alfalfa in our products. These ingredients can often introduce unnecessary sugars and starches into a horse’s diet, which can be detrimental to their health. Instead, Thunderbrook focuses on using the best natural ingredients that horses are evolved to consume. This commitment ensures that our feeds support a healthy gut microbiome, which is crucial for overall health and vitality.

Thunderbrook’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that horses should be nourished with natural ingredients that they are evolutionarily designed to eat and digest. We are committed to avoiding products that could potentially harm horses, such as those with high sugar and starch content or those contaminated with undesirable substances like pesticides. Moreover, our goal is to harness the goodness of nature to feed our horses and ponies.

These HayCobs are an excellent additional fiber source, perfect for horses needing extra forage without upsetting their balanced diet. The importance of forage and Thunderbrook’s commitment to quality

Forage forms the cornerstone of a horse’s diet, providing essential nutrients and energy. An adult horse typically consumes around 2% of its body weight in dry forage daily. For a standard 15.2hh, 500kg horse, this equates to approximately 10kg of hay or over 40kg of fresh grass. Quality forage supports a healthy gut microbiome, crucial for digesting fiber and absorbing nutrients. Thunderbrook’s organic hay, which is included in Healthy Herbal Chaff, for example, is harvested from ancient meadows in the UK with over 200 varieties of grasses and herbs and offers unrivalled biodiversity. The Bavarian Pre-Alps meadows also offer a huge selection of different grasses and herbs that are ideal for our products and your horses health. This variety supports a rich and diverse gut microbiome, which is vital for overall health and well-being.

Forage’s role in a horse’s diet cannot be overstated. It serves as the primary source of nutrition and plays a critical role in maintaining the natural balance of a horse’s digestive system. In contrast to modern grazing systems, which often consist of monoculture grasses like ryegrass, Thunderbrook’s products are free from synthetic additives, herbicides, and pesticides.

Choosing Thunderbrook products means opting for natural, high-quality equine nutrition that supports your horse’s health and well-being. Our commitment to using only the best ingredients, avoiding harmful additives, and supporting biodiversity through organic practices ensures that our products are not only good for your horse but also for the environment.
